The Professional Currency Dealer Association was
founded in 1985. It counts among its members over 100 of the world's leading
specialists in currency, stocks and bonds, fiscal documents, and related
paper items.
The goals of the organization are to promote,
stimulate and advance the profession of dealing in all forms of currency
and related items; to advance the study of paper money; and to promote
honest, knowledgeable and ethical dealing between members and the public.
PCDA seeks to foster public awareness though
education, and currently sponsors several project aimed specifically at
accomplishing that goal. Some of those are; the National Bank Note research
project; a series of informative booklets, currently numbering seven different,
concerning various specialty areas of the hobby; and sponsorship of the
John Hickman National Bank Note Exhibit Award, presented each June at the
Memphis Paper Money Convention: and underwriting of paper money seminars
at the American Numismatic Association's summer series, as well as providing
scholarships to worthy recipients to attend those seminars. PCDA also hosts
its own show, the PCDA International Currency and Coin Convention each
fall in Chicago.
PCDA aims to make people aware of the joys
of collecting, and the knowledge that can be acquired through participation
and study. The camaraderie that is also experienced can be looked upon
simply as an added fringe benefit!
